Medication in School

Dear Parent/carer

We have a number of students who take regular medication which the school holds for them. We are fortunate to have a non-teaching, trained member of staff who can administer the medication to students and monitor dosage and stock levels. However we have a medications policy which we must adhere to and I need to alert you to some important details to ensure that we are giving the medication to students safely.

  • Medication must be brought in by a parent or carer. We can not accept medication that is brought in by a child.
  • Medication must be brought in in the box or packaging so that we can see the dosage that the student is to receive. We cannot accept blister packs of medication or single tablets.
  • Every time a new set of medication is brought into school, parents and carers will have to fill a form out to give consent and provide details of the medication we will be administering.

I have attached the policy so that you can read it in more detail but I’m sure you can appreciate it is a big responsibility to give children medication and therefore we monitor and track it very carefully.

If you have been sending your child in with their medication to give to staff, please be advised that we will not be able to accept this.

If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully

J Norman
