Pathway Planning day

Thu 05 Nov 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to invite you and your child to our Pathway Planning Day on Wednesday 11 November 2026.

Pathway Planning Day is a trust-wide initiative taking place across all schools within the Outwood Family, designed to provide dedicated time for pupils, parents and mentors to work together to discuss progress, personal development and future pathways.

This will be a different type of school day, designed to give parents, carers and pupils the opportunity to meet with their child's mentor and discuss their progress, development and future pathway.

Arrangements for the day

Year 11 pupils
will attend school in the morning as normal and will complete their English Literature mock examination. They and their parents and carers will then have the opportunity to meet with their mentor as part of the Pathway Planning Day.

Years 7–10 pupils
will not attend their normal lessons that day. Instead, they will come into school with their parents/carer for an allocated appointment with their mentor. Appointments will take place between 12.00pm and 7.00pm.

When completing the Google Form, please select the time slot that would be most convenient for you:

  • 12.00pm – 2.30pm
  • 2.30pm – 5.00pm
  • 5.00pm – 7.00pm

We will do our best to arrange your child's appointment within your preferred time slot. Whilst we cannot guarantee a specific appointment time, we will take your preference into consideration when organising the appointments.

Once appointments have been arranged, you will receive confirmation of your allocated time.

There will also be drop-in sessions to help parents access our Parent portal, Google classroom and other online platforms as well as sessions about our target setting processes to help you to understand how your child’s targets have been determined. There will also be opportunities to ask any questions you may have about homework or other parts of school life.

Year Group Focus

The meeting with your child's mentor will have a different focus depending on their year group:

  • Year 7:
    Transition and engagement
  • Year 8: Careers and personal development
  • Year 9: Choosing their options
  • Year 10: GCSE readiness
  • Year 11: Mock exam analysis and destination planning

Careers Fair

Alongside the Pathway Planning Day, we will also be holding a Careers Fair in our school restaurant from 2.00pm until 6.00pm.

We would encourage parents and pupils to visit the Careers Fair while they are in school. There will be a range of employers, colleges, training providers and other organisations available to talk to pupils and parents about careers, education, training and future opportunities.

What do you need to do?

Please complete the Google Form below to let us know which appointment time would be most suitable for you:

Please complete the form by Friday 16th October 2026 so that we can organise appointments and confirm your child's appointment time.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child into school and hope that the Pathway Planning Day will provide a valuable opportunity to discuss their progress and help them to plan for their future.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

J Norman
